On PATROL was originally a column on Breach-Bang-Clear, but I moved it here for Reasons. A quick explanation is no doubt in order: when I say patrolling, I’m referring to the act of consulting – or actively looking for – PATROL locations. Places Available To Read Or Learn. Think OSINT websites, YouTube channels run by legit, academically articulate SMEs, and the like.
I know. It’s not terribly clever, but it’ll do until I come up with something better. Or at least pithier.
The acronym refers to websites, people, social media accounts, and other sources of information I reckon you might want to be aware of. Not just because they’re interesting (though they are) but because they’re a tremendous source of good information for armed and/or prepared citizens and anyone pursuing the noble profession of arms.
These aren’t sites chosen to help anyone with their tactical or tacticool normative influence. It’s for serious people looking for serious information; ideally those willing to engage in civil discourse and a variety of perspectives for the purpose of making informed decisions and/or conversation.
It would be impossible to vet the contents of every entry here thoroughly, but I’ve done my best to ensure you’re not looking at anything more glib than informative. (I really wanted to use the word didactic in there, but it just wouldn’t fit properly).
Regardless, I hope this list of useful and informative OSINT and educational sources is useful to you in some way. If you know of a place that deserves a spot on this list, hit me up, please! You might also be interested in my FYSA files.
Patrolling: the traditional information vs. mine
I’ll be honest, this section is here primarily to help catch the attention of web crawlers and search engines. But hey, maybe you can use this too.
The word “patrol” is derived from the French word patrouiller, itself derived from the Old French word patouiller meaning “to paddle, paw about, patrol,” which is in turn from patte, “a paw.”
